PHL Embassy Celebrates ASEAN Culture in Vientiane

05 December 2017 VIENTIANE — The Philippine Embassy in Vientiane, Laos, in coordination with the Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the ASEAN Embassies in Vientiane, hosted ASEAN Cultural Night 2017 at the Lao Plaza Hotel in Vientiane on November 30.

The event, was attended by representatives from the diplomatic corps and international organizations and the Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and was a celebration of the successful conclusion of the 31st ASEAN Summit and served as the Embassy’s culminating activity for the ASEAN Chairmanship of the Philippines.

The program of events included the Dok Champa dance of the spouses of the ASEAN Ambassadors, which was accompanied by the song Champa Meuang Lao performed by Philippine Ambassador to Laos Belinda M. Ante; the Thingyan Moe (Water Festival Dance) by the Myanmar Embassy; a Ballet Dance: An Adaptation from La Bayadere by the Singapore Embassy; Ao Dai Fashion Show by the Vietnamese Embassy; Isarn Muen Suen, a traditional dance, by the Thai Embassy; a video presentation on Brunei traditional instrument by the Gulingtangan Group by the Brunei Embassy; a video of an Apsara dance from the Cambodian Embassy; Itik-Itik dance by the WeFil Dance Troup; Indang Badinding dance by the Indonesian Embassy; and, a Malay Wedding presentation by the Malaysian Embassy. The program ended with a video of the Turnover of the ASEAN Chairmanship by the Philippines to Singapore.

The participants also paid their respects to His Excellency Surin Pitsuwan, former Thai Foreign Minister and ASEAN Secretary General, who passed away on the same day. END
