07 December 2017 NEW YORK — The PATH Train, the main rail service provider in the State of New Jersey, awarded its Holiday Poster Competition Grand Prize to Filipino 8th grader Renfrew Maristela this month.
Renfrew a student of PS 23 in Jersey City, New Jersey, created a poster depicting a snowman waiting for a PATH Train with the New York City skyline as backdrop. His poster art, chosen from among 350 entries from 30 schools in the state, will be displayed in PATH status and in rail cars throughout the 2017 holiday season.
Renfrew comes from a family of artists headed by his father, Angelo Maristela, who has held exhibitions at the Philippine Center in New York as well as in other venues across the globe.
The winning artists shared with the Philippine Consulate General in New York his reaction upon learning of the award: “I feel amazing as I didn’t expect the win. I always remember my father’s advice, to have patience whenever we do something (such as art or any other work), and to always put our hearts in it as it it’s our last.”
The PATH train is the main transportation platform for millions of commuters across New Jersey and connecting to neighboring areas including New York City. END
