Prominent Filipino Artist Features in CINERAMA Exhibit at Singapore Art Museum

CINERAMA

Philippine visual artist Victor Balanon (bottom photo, right), and his video installation,
“The Man Who” were part of the featured works at the Cinerama: Art and the Moving Image in Southeast Asia exhibition at the Singapore Art Museum (SAM). Cinerama brings together 10 artists and collectives from across Southeast Asia who work through the medium of the moving image. Spanning hand-drawn animation to immersive video installations, the works explore the history of the genre, its current-day expressions, and potential for the future. Mr. Balanon is a self-taught artist based in Quezon City, Philippines. His works have been featured in major exhibitions and institutions, including the Jakarta Biennale, the Jewish Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design, the University of the Philippines’ Vargas Museum, and the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts, and in the group collective exhibition “Panoply” at the Ambassador’s residence at the recently concluded Art Trek 2017 edition of the Philippine Embassy in Singapore.
