Philippine Tourism Undersecretary Alma Rita R. Jimenez for Tourism Regulation & Resource Generation delivers a presentation entitled “PH Government Tourism Plan in 2017 to 2022” during the Exclusive Presentation on Philippine Investment Opportunities on 27 November 2017 at the Admiralty Conference Centre in Hong Kong.

08 December 2017 HONG KONGThe Philippines’ Department of Tourism (DOT) conducted an exclusive presentation on Philippine Investment Opportunities on November 27 at the Admiralty Conference Center at the sidelines of the Marché International des professionnels de I’immobilier (MIPIM) Asian Summit in Hong Kong.

The delegation, led by DOT Undersecretary Alma Rita R. Jimenez, presented various aspects of tourism investment by Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) Chief Operations Office Pocholo J.D. Paragas and Philippine Retirement Agency (PRA) Chief Executive Officer and General Manager Atty. Bienvenido K. Chy.

Undersecretary Jimenez, who heads a unit on tourism regulation and resource generation, discussed the PH Government Tourism Plan 2017-2022 to bring more investors to the country and to make PH a more increasingly attractive investment destination in Asia.

TIEZA head Mr. Paragas said that through Tourism Enterprise Zone (TEZ) program, public and private entities may acquire a piece of land with defined boundaries master planned for the development of tourist destinations that may attract more visitors in the country.

TEZ operators will be granted incentives, both fiscal and non-fiscal. TIEZA has developed five of the six proposed TEZ sites: three in Luzon (Rizal Park Complex, Manila; Mt. Samat Shrine of Valor, Bataan; San Vicente, Palawan); and one each in Visayas and Mindanao (Panglao Bay Premiere, Bohol; and Bucas Grande, Surigao Del Norte).

PRA, a DOT attached agency, hopes to attract 10,000 new members this year. Among the benefits offered by PRA to attract foreign nationals to retire in the Philippines is permanent residency short of Filipino citizenship. Atty. Chy added that PRA also offers a range of housing designs that can cater to every lifestyle and every budget.

PH ranked 19th on International Living’s annual global retirement index for 2017.

In his opening remarks, the Philippine Consulate General’s Acting Head Roderico C. Atienza discussed the country’s tourism potential that remains untapped despite the long history and geographic proximity of Hong Kong from the Philippines. As an example, he said luxury cruise companies are starting to take advantage of the developing cruise tourism sector.

Following the DOT’s presentation, several Hong Kong businessmen expressed avid interest in discussing possible exploring possible tourism investments in the Philippines, particularly for retirees from Hong Kong. END
