PH Highlights ASEAN Chairship in Asia House Signature Conference
Dr. Ceferino S Rodolfo, Undersecretary for Industry Development and Trade Policy of the Philippines’ Department of Trade and Industry delivers keynote remarks focusing on PH’s ASEAN hosting this year and its achievements in implementing ASEAN’s deliverables at the Asia House Signature Conference entitled “Asia Trade in the New Global Order” at the J.W. Marriott Hong Kong on 27 November 2017.
08 December 2017 HONG KONG – Philippine Trade and Investment Undersecretary Ceferino S Rodolfo highlighted the Philippines’ achievements during the country’s 2017 chairship of ASEAN in his keynote speech at the Asia House Signature Conference entitled “Asia Trade in the New Global Order” at the J.W. Marriott Hong Kong on 27 November 2017.
Dr. Rodolfo, Undersecretary for Industry Development and Trade Policy, stressed that the Philippines’ hosting of ASEAN in 2017 was an excellent opportunity to move the country’s international agenda, especially the promotion of global inclusive and innovation-led growth – a priority of ASEAN this year under the theme “Partnering for Change, Engaging the World.”
He also noted that the Philippines was able to shepherd the conclusion of longstanding issues in ASEAN, namely the signing of the ASEAN-Hong Kong Free Trade Agreement and the ASEAN-Hong Kong Investment Agreement, as well as the protocol to amend the ASEAN-Japan Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.
Undersecretary Rodolfo emphasized that it is important to strive towards inclusive integration and globalization, and this is what the Philippines has advocated through its ASEAN chairship and in other international platforms.
“Asia Trade in the New Global Order” was the first Asia House Signature Conference outside of the United Kingdom and was aimed at examining the new global trade order and its architecture through the implementation of new regional trade agreements, the Belt and Road Initiative, enhanced connectivity in Asia and the development of the ASEAN Community.
Lord Green of Hurstpierpoint, Chairman of Asia House, opened the event while Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor gave a keynote address.
Former Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima also spoke as a panelist at the Asia House Signature Conference. END
