14 December 2017 YANGON – The Philippine Embassy in Yangon held an event titled “Paskong Pinoy 2017” last December 11 at the Embassy grounds to showcase how Filipinos celebrate Christmas. The event was attended by teachers and student representatives from Grades 4 to 10 from The Diplomatic School Yangon.
The highlight of the event was the Parol-making workshop where Embassy personnel taught the students and teachers how to create a Filipino lantern “parol” using bamboo sticks and strings, after which the participants made their own “parol” with creative designs using cellophane, Japanese paper and foil in various colors. This was followed by Philippine parlor games such as newspaper dance, egg relay, Pukpok Palayok and Agaw Bitin.
The event culminated with Ambassador Kapunan giving Certificates of Participation to all the students and awarding special prizes to the winners of the best “parol” competition and parlor games. Philippine snacks “merienda” were served to the participants. END
