Pinoy Diplomat Elected President of London Consuls
18 December 2017 LONDON – The Consular Corps of London, the oldest continuously existing consular corps in the world, elected Senen T. Mangalile, Deputy Chief of Mission and Consul General of the Embassy of the Philippines to the United Kingdom, as president for calendar year 2018 on December 13.
The first Filipino diplomat to assume the position, Mangalile stood unopposed at elections held during the Annual General Meeting of the Consular Corps of London (CCL) held at The Churchill, a Hyatt Regency Hotel on Portman Square in Marylebone, where the group elected six other members of the Executive Committee, namely Rachel Shani of Israel, Laura Frampton of Belize, Vesna Vercon Ivic of Serbia, Tomislav Vlahutin of Croatia, Karin Wallace of the USA, and Jorge Moreno-Fierro of Ecuador.
The Consular Corps of London (CCL) was established in 1902 as an association of all consuls general and consular officers, both career and honorary, serving in London. It holds seminars, conferences, luncheons and other activities aimed at helping consuls help their citizens.
In his first remarks to the CCL as president, Mangalile invited everyone to share his vision of adding relevance to the group’s activities by ensuring that only the most authoritative speakers would be invited to discuss the most interesting topics of the day. “I am grateful for the opportunity to officially represent all consular officers assigned in London and I will work hard to ensure that CCL enjoys a full program of activities that offer value to the members,” Mangalile said.
Philippine Ambassador to the United Kingdom Antonio M. Lagdameo welcomed the election of Mangalile. “It gives us much pride to know that our very own Consul General enjoys the confidence of his peers,” Lagdameo said.
Mangalile previously served in Osaka, Japan and Ankara, Turkey. He graduated with the degree Master of Science in Diplomacy, Statecraft and Foreign Policy (with Distinction) from Loughborough University. He is a Freeman of the City of London and was awarded the Gawad Dangal ng Lipi by the Province of Bulacan. END
