PHL Embassy in Tehran Joins Celebration of ASEAN Day in Iran

20 December 2017 TEHRAN — Philippine Ambassador Wilfredo C. Santos and the personnel of the Philippine Embassy in Tehran joined the celebration of ASEAN Day held at the Official Residence of HE Dato Rustam Yahaya, Malaysian Ambassador to Iran, on December 14.
The event capped off the year-long activities of the ASEAN Tehran Committee (ATC) as part of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of ASEAN’s establishment on August 8, 1967 and the Philippines’ Chairmanship of the ASEAN Summit and Related Meetings in 2017.
Malaysian Ambassador Yahaya welcomed the participants to the event which included the officers and staff of the ASEAN Embassies in Tehran and their families. As Chairman of the ATC, Ambassador Santos spoke on the significant achievements of ASEAN since its founding 50 years ago and the highlights of the Philippines’ chairmanship of ASEAN 2017 under the leadership of HE President Rodrigo R. Duterte.
This was followed by the ceremonial cutting of the cake decorated with the ASEAN logo by the six (6) ASEAN Ambassadors based in Tehran. Later, the ASEAN Ambassadors joined in the traditional ASEAN handshake followed by a group photo of the ASEAN Embassies and their families.
Each ASEAN Embassy provided samples of their native cuisine as their contribution to the celebration.
The ATC is composed of the Ambassadors of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam in Tehran. Thai Ambassador to Iran, HE Kallayana Vipattipumiprates, is the incoming Chairman of the ATC in 2018. END
