PHL Ambassador to Iran Presents Credentials as Non-Resident Ambassador to Turkmenistan

18 December 2017 ASHGABAT – Philippine Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Iran HE Wilfredo C. Santos presented his credentials as non-resident Ambassador of the Philippines to Turkmenistan before Parliament Speaker Akja Nuberdiyeva, at the National Assembly (Mejlis) in Ashgabat on December 13.
During the bilateral meeting that followed the ceremony, Speaker Nuberdiyeva emphasized the importance of strengthening the bilateral relations between the Philippines and Turkmenistan, particularly in the areas of tourism and trade as well as inter parliamentary cooperation.
For his part, Ambassador Santos conveyed the best wishes of HE President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and to the Turkmen people and reiterated his goal of working for more bilateral exchanges between the Philippines and Turkmenistan in the areas of trade and investment, culture and tourism. Ambassador Santos also congratulated the government and people of Turkmenistan for its successful hosting of the 22nd Anniversary of Neutrality Day on December 12.
Earlier, Ambassador Santos called on Deputy Foreign Minister Vepa Hajiyev at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs where they discussed pending bilateral matters between the two countries, including the proposed agreements on political consultations, economic and trade cooperation, and cultural and tourism cooperation.
Turkmenistan declared its independence from the former Soviet Union on October 27, 1991.There are more than 600 Filipino professionals and workers in Turkmenistan, employed mainly in the oil and gas sectors of the country. END
