PHL Consulate General in Milan Observes International Migrants’ Day 2017

Philippine Consul General Marichu Mauro delivers her message during the program to observe International Migrants’ Day 2017 at the Philippine Consulate General in Milan on December 18.

21 December 2017 MILAN – The Philippine Consulate General in Milan held a program at its premises in Via Stromboli 1, Milan on December 18 in observance of the International Migrants’ Day 2017.

The program, attended by members of the Filipino community and personnel of the Philippine Consulate General in Milan, started with the singing of the Lupang Hinirang and the Panunumpa sa Watawat.

In her message, Consul General Marichu Mauro greeted the members of the Filipino community and underscored the significance of the observance, which is meant to honor the contributions of migrants to global peace and well-being. She mentioned that, in particular, Filipino migrants in Italy, the majority of which are workers, are recognized and should stand proud for their rich contribution to the respective economies and societies of the Philippines and Italy.

Consul General Mauro highlighted the measures taken by the Philippine Consulate General in Milan, following the lead of President

Rodrigo Duterte to further improve the delivery of public services to the members of the Filipino migrant community abroad.

She likewise shared on the forthcoming issuance of Philippine passports with a validity of ten years, which is a priority project of the President in the beginning of 2018. She also thanked the members of the Filipino community for their continued support and partnership with Consulate General.

The program concluded with a group photo, which was followed by the showing movies that relate to the OFW theme, namely: “My Ex and Whys” and “Imagine You and I”. The latter was supposed to be shot on location in Lake Como in Italy.

To highlight the observance, a banner on the International Migrants’ Day 2017, is displayed at the public area of the Consulate General courtesy of the POLO/OWWA Milan.
