Consul General in New York Hosts Year-End Appreciation Night for Fil-Am Media

27 December 2017 NEW YORK – Consul General Theresa Dizon-De Vega hosted a holiday Press Night and appreciation dinner for the members of the Filipino-American media based in New York and New Jersey as a thanksgiving for their partnership and support of the Consulate General’s public diplomacy efforts. The dinner was held at Peking Duck Restaurant in Manhattan, New York on December 18.
At the start of the evening, Consul General Dizon-De Vega expressed her gratitude to the guests, many of whom have just arrived from a media familiarization tour in Manila and Davao. She acknowledged the success of many of the Consulate’s programs are in part because of the press coverage from the journalists, and assured those present of continued dialogue and transparency from the Consulate General.
In a candid exchange, the Consul General responded to questions from the media about the Philippines’ ASEAN Summit Chairmanship, the domestic concerns in the Philippines, plans for 2018, and current matters affecting the Filipino-American Community, as well as updates on a possible event with new Philippine Ambassador to the US Amb. Jose Manuel Romualdez.
Outgoing President of Fil-Am Press Club Ricky Rillera presented a Plaque of Recognition to ConGen Dizon-De Vega for her contributions to the Filipino-American community and her commitment to truthful and honest public service.
In her acceptance message, Consul General Dizon-De Vega said she will bring the recognition wherever she may be posted in the world and said that media is an essential partner of the Philippine foreign service.
After dinner, the media members rendered a song number for the Consul General, to the enjoyment of everyone.
Joining Consul General Dizon-De Vega and the media at the event were Consul Kerwin Orville Tate, Post’s Information Officer Vice Consul Khrystina Corpuz, and Vice Cosnul Tanya Faye Ramiro. END
