PHL Embassy in Dhaka Meets with Officials of the Bangladesh Film and Television Academy

16 January 2018 DHAKA — The Philippine Embassy in Dhaka met with officials of the Bangladesh Film and Television Academy (BFTA), a prominent film school located in Uttara, Dhaka in Bangladesh on 08 January, to discuss future cooperation programs featuring Filipino filmmakers and focusing on filmmaking appreciation and coordinative activities between the Embassy and the BFTA.

The Embassy, represented by Third Secretary and Vice Consul Ms. LV I. De Guzman and Attaché Ms. Cathrinne Dimaranan-Gamo, had discussions with BFTA officials CEO Ms. Afsana Mimi, Administrative Officer Mr. Tanveer Hossain, and Senior Executive Abdullah Al Mamun, to explore the possibility of organizing activities that would feature Philippine film and filmmakers, and highlight the importance of the film industry and filmmakers in social and cultural history. BFTA CEO, the renowned and celebrated film actress Afsana Mimi, welcomed the possibility of collaborative projects that would aim to raise awareness within the Bangladeshi film circuit on the history and diversity of Philippine cinema and filmmakers, and link the two film industries through coordination and a shared passion in the arts.

The meeting was held as part of the Embassy’s cultural diplomacy program, which focuses on the enhancement of appreciation of Philippine culture in the area of film and filmmaking among film students, film professionals, and film enthusiasts in Bangladesh. END
