Filipino Community in Hawaii Hosts Aloha Farewell Party for Consul General

23 January 2018 HONOLULU — The Governor of Hawaii, Mayor of Honolulu, State Representatives John Mizuno and Romeo Cachola, and Hawaii’s Attorney General joined the Filipino Community Aloha Farewell Party to honor outgoing Philippine Consul General Gina Jamoralin at C’est Bon Ballroom of Pagoda Hotel on 12 January. They thanked Consul General Jamoralin for her dedication and passion in serving the Filipino community and the State of Hawaii during her three and a half years stay in Hawaii.
The Philippine Celebrations Coordinating Committee of Hawaii (PCCH) led by its Chair, Ms. Bennette Misalucha spearheaded the organization of the farewell party in cooperation with other Filipino community organizations.
Governor David Ige presented a plaque of commendation to Consul General Jamoralin and lauded her efforts in strengthening the bond between the Philippines and Hawaii and enhancing Philippines-United States relations and in unifying the Filipino community in Hawaii. The Governor also thanked Consul General Jamoralin for spearheading the effort to get the Sakada Day bill passed unanimously in the Hawaii State Legislature. Governor Ige signed House Bill 604 a.k.a. Sakada Day bill on 09 April 2015 which recognizes December 20th of each year as Sakada Day to honor the arrival of the first fifteen (15) Filipino plantation workers or sakadas in Hawaii on 20 December 1906.
Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell presented a proclamation on behalf of the city and county of Honolulu, proclaiming January 12, 2018 as special day in honor of Consul General Jamoralin.
Former Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hanneman sang for Consul General Jamoralin while Hawaii’s Attorney General Douglas Chin wished her to bring the same energy and passion to her next post in Chicago.
Hawaii State Representatives John Mizuno and Romeo Cachola presented a certificate of commendation on behalf of the Hawaii House of Representatives to Consul General Jamoralin and thanked her for her contribution to the Filipino sakadas of Hawaii.
Fourteen Filipino organizations and leaders also paid tribute to Consul General Jamoralin that evening with their leis and remarks. They were the Philippine Celebrations Coordinating Committee (PCCH); Oahu Filipino Community Council; Filipino Women’s Civic Club Foundation; Congress of Visayan Organizations; Hawaii Association of Filipino Travel Agents; Knights of Rizal; UP Alumni Association of Hawaii; UPTRA/Philippine Women’s Association in Hawaii; Philippine Cultural Foundation; Filipino Association of University Women; Filipino Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii; Filipino Community Center; CIASI-Samahang Ilocano and Consular Corps of Hawaii. Mr. Joe Lazo, Filipino community leader also delivered remark. Mr. Lazo, a veteran and respected Filcom leader organized the first Filipino community welcome party for Consul General Jamoralin when she arrived in July 2014. END
