Minato City in Tokyo Donates Yen 900,000 for Victims of Typhoon Tembin/Vinta in Mindanao

24 January 2018 — Officials of the local government of Minato City in Tokyo handed over to Ambassador Jose C. Laurel V on 15 January at the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo their ¥900,000 cash donations for the victims of and rehabilitation program for the damages caused by Typhoon Tembin (Typhoon Vinta) that hit Mindanao in December 2017.
Mayor Masaaki Takei, on behalf of the Minato City Hall, expressed his condolences for the lost lives and prayer for the swift recovery of the areas damaged by the typhoon. Mayor Takei of Minato City and Chairman Koji Ikeda of the Minato City Assembly handed over the cash of ¥800,000 and ¥100,000, respectively, to Ambassador Laurel. Witnessing the turn-over ceremonies were Deputy Chief of Mission Eduardo M.R. Meñez and First Secretary & Consul Leah Victoria C. Rodrgiuez, both of the Philippine Embassy. The cash donation will be turned-over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) or the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) in the Philippines.
Minato City, with population of about 250,000, is one of the 23 wards comprising Tokyo. Many diplomatic establishments are located in Minato City, including the Philippine Embassy in the Roppongi District. END
