26 January 2018 Paris – Philippine Ambassador to France Maria Theresa Lazaro was present at the opening of a photo exhibition at the Musée de l’Homme in Paris that featured photographs of the inhabitants of Palawan’s Singnapan Valley, the ethnolinguistic group called the Tau’t Batu.

The exhibition, entitled “Le Peuple de la Vallée” (The People of the Valley) showcases the work of French photographer Pierre de Vallombreuse documenting his “return visit” to Palawan after spending several years there in the late 80s. Mr. de Vallombreuse had explained that, having come back to the valley after almost thirty years, he was able to see clearly how development has touched – both for the better and for the worse – the Tau’t Batu community.

In her remarks during the official opening ceremony, Ambassador Lazaro commended Mr. de Valombreuse for having been able to “capture in his images the Tau’t Batu’s way of life and the picturesque, unspoilt scenery of the place they call home.”

The opening night of the exhibit was attended by an estimated 150 guests, comprised of members of the diplomatic corps, museum officials, artists, scientists, writers and photography enthusiasts.

This same exhibit was first opened at the National Museum of the Philippines in August 2017 is ongoing until the February 04. This project in the Philippines was undertaken in partnership with the National Museum and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts of the Philippines.

The exhibition in Paris is open to the public until 2 July 2018. For more information, please visit: http://www.museedelhomme.fr/fr/visitez/agenda/exposition/peuple-vallee. END
