Xiamen Municipal Government Hosts New Year Briefing for Consular Corps

29 January 2018 XIAMEN — The Xiamen Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office (FOCAO) and the Xiamen Municipal Government invited the Consular Corps in Xiamen, consisting of the Consulates General of the Philippines, Thailand, and Singapore, to the 2018 New Year Briefing for the Consular Corps conducted by Vice Mayor Han Jingyi on 18 January at Xiamen’s Consular Complex.

Xiamen FOCAO Director General Li Xiaoping welcomed the representatives from the three Consulates General and emphasized that the annual briefing is meant to enhance and deepen the Consular Corps’ understanding of Xiamen, and to draw insights from the Consulates General on ways to improve bilateral relations.

Vice Mayor Han briefed the participants on Xiamen’s achievements in 2017, which included the successful hosting of the BRICS Summit and the China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT). He also noted the dynamic economic, social, and cultural development of the city, and acknowledged the support of the Consulates General in achieving Xiamen’s successes in 2017. He also asked for their continued support and cooperation for Xiamen’s plans for 2018.

The Consuls General in turn gave their own remarks. Consul General Julius Flores gave the participants an overview of the activities and achievements of the Philippines and the Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen, as well as the highlights of the 2017 Philippine Chairship of ASEAN. The briefing ended with a commitment to meet again to prepare for the upcoming biennial Nanyang (ASEAN) Festival. END
