PHL Embassy in Bangladesh and Honorary Consul in Colombo, Sri Lanka Meet with the Bar Association of Sri Lanka

30 January 2018 COLOMBO — The Philippine Embassy in Dhaka (Dhaka PE) and the Office of the Philippine Honorary Consul (Colombo OPHC) met with the Bar Association of Sri Lanka on 17 January as part of Dhaka PE and Colombo OPHC's efforts to strengthen friendly links with renowned and respected institutions in Sri Lanka, in line with the Department's policy to provide dedicated assistance to Overseas Filipino nationals.
The Embassy was represented by Dhaka PE's Third Secretary and Vice Consul Ms. LV de Guzman and the meeting was headed by Colombo OPHC's Honorary Consul High Sriyal Dissanayake, with the support of the Honorary Consul's Chief of Staff Mr. Nalin Perrera. The Bar Association of Sri Lanka was represented by its Secretary, Atty. Amal A. Randeniya, who currently heads the nationwide Association.
The discussions included legal norms in Sri Lanka with respect to detained and charged foreign nationals, the trial processes and timelines involved in criminal cases, as well as the history and heritage of Sri Lanka in relation to the formation of its legal system. Both sides agreed that continued engagements and coordination, particularly in legal guidance, would be helpful in enhancing relations between Dhaka PE, Colombo OPHC and the Bar Association in Sri Lanka.
