Lisbon Tourism Congress1

03 December 2013 - Philippine to Portugal Ambassador Philippe J. Lhuillier delivered a presentation on Philippine tourism at the VI International Tourism Congress on November 27 in Peniche, Portugal.

 

Ambassador Lhuillier gave an overview on the current national tourism strategy of the Philippine government that seeks to formulate an integrated sustainable tourism management plan. The Ambassador’s presentation also highlighted the factors and attractions that make the Philippines an ideal tourist destination. Mention was also made of the current tourism promotion campaign “It’s more fun in the Philippines,” and the increasing growth of visitor arrivals to the Philippines and tourism related income in the past few years.

 

In addition to emphasizing the Philippines as a tourism destination, Ambassador Lhuillier also noted the various investment opportunities in the Philippine tourism sector, stating that “tourism in the Philippines is not only an opportunity to have fun and enjoy your visit to our beautiful country. It also provides a good opportunity to do business, with promising opportunities to invest in a vibrant sector of our economy.”

 

The tourism congress is an annual event organized by the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria in Peniche, Portugal. The theme for this year’s Congress was “Image and Sustainability of Tourism Destinations.” Members of the academe and tourism authorities from 32 countries were represented at the Congress with eight keynote speakers and 150 academic papers presented over the three-day Congress held from November 27 to 29.
