PH, US Consulates General to Partner Against Human Trafficking

06 February 2018 HONG KONG – Consul General Antonio A. Morales looked forward to partnering with US Consul General Kurt W. Tong on implementing projects to combat human trafficking.

During his courtesy call on Consul General Tong, Consul General Morales said that the Philippine government is committed to addressing human trafficking, especially given the large population of Filipino workers worldwide.

He further noted that as part of the Philippines’ fight against human trafficking, the government has issued deployment bans to countries where Filipino workers were found to have been victims of trafficking or illegal recruitment.

Consul General Morales proposed the conduct of capacity building programs, including symposia and workshops, to protect migrant workers in Hong Kong, around 200,000 of them are Filipinos, from human trafficking.

Both Consuls General agreed to strengthen cooperation and collaboration, particularly in combating human trafficking and labor-related issues. END
