 PHL Delegation Attends the 8th Session of the Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)

07 February 2018 ABU DHABI — Philippine Permanent Representative to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Ambassador Constancio R. Vingno, Jr. was Head of Delegation to the eighth Session of the Assembly of IRENA held last 13 to 14 January 2018 at St. Regis Hotel, Saadiyat, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

IRENA, an international organization that serves as a platform for cooperation in the pursuit of a sustainable energy future, is a repository of policy, technology, resource and financial knowledge on all forms of renewable energy, including bioenergy, geothermal, hydropower, ocean, solar and wind energy.  

The 8th Assembly welcomed 1,100 representatives of governments from 150 countries. IRENA Director-General Adnan Z. Amin presented and discussed with Members the Agency’s progress on the Work Programme and Budget for 2016-2017 and the new strategic and programmatic direction in the context of the proposed Work Programme and Budget for 2018-2019 and draft Medium-term Strategy 2018-2022. Member States also deliberated on Programmatic discussions: ‘Renewable energy policies in a time of transition’ and ‘Working together to accelerate the deployment of geothermal energy’;  and discussed IRENA/ Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) selected projects for the fifth cycle and committee members of the sixth cycle; Strategic Plenary Ministerial discussion on Nationally Determined Contributions; including institutional and administrative matters and arrangements for ninth session of the Assembly.
