Consul General Meets with Russian Counterpart to Discuss Matters Relating to OFWs in Hong Kong
12 February 2018 HONG KONG – Russian Consul General Alexander Kozlov (left) and Philippine Consul General Antonio A. Morales (right) shake hands during the latter’s call at the Russian Consulate General on 24 January 2018. Consul General Morales expressed concern over reports Filipino domestic helpers from Hong Kong are being recruited to Russia under commercial (business) visas to look for employment as household service workers. Holders of such business visas are not allowed to work. Both Consulates agreed to work closely together to address the issue in concerted efforts to ensure that the rights and welfare of Filipinos are protected and that Russian immigration laws are not violated. In October of last year, the Hong Kong Labour Department raided employment agencies that have been reported for facilitating deployment of domestic helpers from Hong Kong to Russia. END
