PH Embassy Holds Filipino Youth Choral Presentation
12 February 2018 RIYADH — The Philippine Embassy held the 1st Filipino Youth Choral Presentation on 26 January 2018 at the King Faisal Foundation Auditorium.
The event entitled “Filipino Youth in Riyadh Sing for Unity”, aimed to expose the current generation of young Filipinos to Filipino music. The event was participated in by Philippine-curriculum schools in Riyadh: Al Taj International School, Elite International School, Future Generation Philippine International School, International Philippine School in Riyadh, Palm Crest International School and Second Philippine International School
Philippine music from different eras were performed in choral arrangements by choral groups composed of thirty (30) male and female students from each participating school.
The choirs from the participating schools performed the following songs in their own unique choral arrangements:
- Folk songs such as Ay, Ay, Ay Pagibig, Ang Pipit, Paro-Parong Bukid, Rosas Pandan and Masdan Mo ang Kapaligiran by Asin.
- Popular songs such as Nais Ko by Ryan Cayabyab, Paraiso by Smokey Mountain.
- Patriotic songs such as Bayan Ko, Isang Dugo, Isang Lahi Isang Musika by Richard Reynoso, Tagumpay Nating Lahat by Lea Salonga.
- Modern songs such as Heal Our Land by Jamie Rivera, Kapag Timubok ang Puso by Donna Cruz, Tuloy Pa Rin by Neocolours; Chinito by Yeng Constantino and Walang Natira by Gloc 9.
During the intermission in between the choral presentations, individual student performances from Al Danah International School, Riyadh International School, Elite International School and Palm Crest International School were held, showcasing the musical talents of young students in various instruments, such as keyboards, guitar and violin, as well as vocal arrangements.
A special presentation by the Riyadh Ambassadors Choir (RAC) was also held during the event. The RAC is composed of 22 male and female Overseas Filipino Contract Workers from different job categories under the supervision of their resident Chorale Conductor, Mr. George Tabang. The RAC sang Bituing Walang Ningning, Tagumpay Nating Lahat and Minsan Lang Kitang Iibigin.
At the end of the event, all choral groups, teacher conductors and student performers came together in a grand finale, singing Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika by Ryan Cayabyab.
The Philippine Embassy hopes that the Filipino community will continue to participate and support the cultural activities organized and participated in by the Philippine Embassy in order to promote Philippine culture in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. END
