PHL Women’s Tennis Team Competes in the FedCup Asia/Oceania Zone Group II

14 February 2018 MANAMA – The Philippine Women’s Tennis Team composed of Team Captain Czarina-Mae Arevalo, Katharina Lehnert, Anna Clarisse Patrimonio, Khim Iglupas and Marian Jade Capadocia, accompanied by Philippine Tennis Association (PHILTA) President Atty. Antonio Cablitas, competed in the recently concluded FedCup Asia/Oceania Group II promotional playoffs held from 06-10 February 2018 at the Bahrain Tennis Federation Courts in Isa Town, Bahrain. 

The PHL team first played against Kyrgystan and won 2-1, after Capadocia won the first singles match against Saara Kunakunova and the pair of Patrimonio and Lehnert won against Ksenia Palkina and Kanykey Koichumanova. The second round played by the PHL against Singapore proved much tougher for the team, as the PHL fell to a 1-2 loss, and SG advanced to the semifinals round.  The PHL team however recovered the next day and won 3-0 against Oman, thereby placing 6^th overall in Group II of the Asia/Oceania Zone.  The eventual winners of the playoffs, Indonesia and Pacific Oceania, will be promoted to the Asia/Oceania Group I for 2019. 

The Philippine Embassy in Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain and the Filipino Community in Bahrain, particularly the officers and members of the Filipino Club Tennis Group (FCTG), fully supported the team throughout the tournament. As a gesture of appreciation for their support, the PHL Team graced the FCTG’s Tennis Clinic held on 09 February 2018 at the Bahrain Tennis Club in Juffair. END
