04 December 2013 - Philippine Ambassador to China Erlinda F. Basilio lauded the Philippine Tourism Office in Beijing for the recent two-day Philippine Tourism Show at the APM Mall in Wangfujing, Beijing, which deftly combined fashion and tourism in a fashion musical show featuring the designs of renowned Filipino couturier Renee Salud from November 23 to 24.

The show aimed at showcasing Filipino talent in fashion design and the Philippines as a rich source of textiles and materials, while highlighting prime Philippine tourist destinations such as Manila, Cebu and Vigan.  Interspersed with song and dance numbers, Renee Salud’s lovely models sashayed down the runway in beach and lounge wear during the Boracay segment; in avant-garde-meets-classic-Filipiniana creations during the Manila  portion; and in exquisitely beaded and finely embroidered bridal gowns during the Vigan finale.

Chinese mallgoers and shoppers flocked to the activity center of the APM Mall and watched in amazement as models paraded the eye-catching creations of Renee Salud, while Philippine tourist spots were being flashed in the background.

Following the finale where Ambassador Basilio congratulated Renee Salud and presented him with a bouquet, the Ambassador said, “This event not only promotes Philippine culture to our Chinese friends through fashion but also demonstrates how our Philippine cultural industries and their creative outputs have grown and developed.” END
