PHL Continues Engagement in Global Dialogue to Strengthen Humanitarian Response

15 February 2018 GENEVA – The Philippine Government continued its engagement with fellow governments, UN humanitarian agencies, international organizations, non-governmental organizations and stakeholders in the Humanitarian Networks and Partnership Week (HNPW), an annual dialogue of humanitarian actors that discuss common challenges and issues in humanitarian action.
Held from 05 to 09 February 2018 in Geneva, the annual dialogue likewise explored possible innovative solutions to current humanitarian issues.
Assistant Secretary Kristoffer James Purisima, Deputy Administrator of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) and Ambassador Evan P. Garcia, Permanent Representative of the Philippines to the UN and other International Organizations in Geneva, led the Philippine Delegation to the HNPW.
The Philippine Delegation participated in the sessions at the HNPW, contributing their insights and views on how coordination, information management, importing priority humanitarian goods, training and simulation exercises, and humanitarian civil-military coordination could be further improved among humanitarian actors at the local, national, regional and international levels.
Other members of the Philippine Delegation include Colonel Frederick Cutler of the Philippine Air Force (PAF), 505th Search and |Rescue Group, Mr. Sonny Patron of the Office of Civil Defense’s Logistics Interoperability and Force Management Division, Third Secretary Sharon Johnnette Agduma and Ms. Marean Abarra, Attaché at the Philippine Mission.
HNPW is hosted by the Swiss Government and co-chaired by the United Kingdom’s Department of International Development (DFID) and the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). The annual dialogue has become a unique opportunity for crisis preparedness and response experts to network and develop new partnerships and do collaborative approaches to resolve common humanitarian challenges.
