04 December 2013 - The 30th of November 2013 marks an important event for Filipinos: it is the 150th birth anniversary of one of our renowned heroes, Andres Bonifacio. In commemoration of this event, the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco conducted a screening of the film “Ang Paglilitis ni Andres Bonifacio”, a 2010 Cinemalaya film by the late Director Mario O’hara. The screening was hosted by the Community College of San Francisco (CCSF) on November 15 and was sponsored by Filipino-American student organizations PEACE and TULAY.
Both students and faculty members of CCSF’s Philippine Studies Department attended the screening and were very enthusiastic about the movie. It gave them a new perspective on the events surrounding the Philippine Revolution, as well as a new insight into the life of Andres Bonifacio. The screening also gave the students the rare opportunity to watch and appreciate Philippine independent cinema.
The screening of “Paglilitis ni Andres Bonifacio” proved to be a success as student leaders and teachers of CCSF are currently planning another screening for the rest of the student body of CCSF. END
