Brunei Hosts 2018 BIMP-EAGA Strategic Planning Meeting

20 February 2018 BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN – The 2018 BIMP-EAGA Strategic Planning Meeting (SPM) was successfully held at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Bandar Seri Begawan on February 11 to 14. Said SPM aims at assessing the progress and implementation of the projects and activities identified pursuant to the BIMP-EAGA Vision 2025 (BEV 2025), and to come up with operational plans for 2018.
With Brunei’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MoFAT-Department of International Trade) as Secretariat, the SPM was attended by around 200 delegates comprised of Senior Officials, government representatives, and the private sector from Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines.
The Philippine delegation was composed of forty-eight (48) members coming from the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA); Department of Trade and Industry (DTI); Bureau of Customs (BOC); Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA); Department of Energy (DOE); Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT); Department of Agriculture (DA); Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR); Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF)–ARMM; Department of Tourism (DOT), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR); Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA); National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA); Bureau on Cultural Heritage–ARMM; Provincial Government of Palawan; and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
Highlighted activities during the SPM include plenary and working group sessions which discussed the BIMP-EAGA’s revised 2017-2019 Rolling Pipeline of Projects (RPoP), 2018 Deliverables and Implementation Plans, and Convergence Projects, among others, covering the BIMP-EAGA’s five pillars of development, namely, connectivity, food basket, environment, tourism, and socio-cultural and education.
The Philippine Embassy fully supports the BIMP-EAGA initiatives being undertaken in Brunei Darussalam, and regularly collaborates with the Brunei Darussalam BIMP-EAGA Business Council (BD-BEBC) to foster projects and activities within the BIMP-EAGA’s pillars of development. END
