PHL Ambassador to Austria Maria Cleofe R. Natividad Presents Credentials to Director General Yukiya Amano as the new Philippine Permanent Representative to IAEA

Philippine Ambassador to Austria Maria Cleofe R. Natividad presents her credentials to IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano during formal ceremonies at the IAEA headquarters in Vienna.

21 February 2018, VIENNA—Philippine Ambassador to Vienna, Austria Maria Cleofe R. Natividad formally presented her letter of credence to Director General Yukiya Amano as the new Permanent Representative of the Philippines to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) at the IAEA headquarters in Vienna, Austria on 20 February 2018.

Ambassador Natividad assured DG Amano of the Philippines’ support for his leadership and active participation in the IAEA’s policy-making bodies. She also reiterated her commitment to “science diplomacy” and to harnessing Philippine membership in the IAEA and other scientific and technical organizations in Vienna to support the country’s development goals.

The IAEA is the world's central intergovernmental forum for scientific and technical co-operation in the nuclear field. It works for the safe, secure and peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology, contributing to international peace and security and the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. The Philippines has been a Member State of the IAEA since 1958. 

The Philippines’ membership and participation in various IAEA technical cooperation projects allows it to build its capability and gain expertise in implementing science and technology as well as to contribute to the regional and interregional exchange of information and experiences on various peaceful applications of nuclear energy, nuclear safety, safeguards and security, among others.

Ambassador Natividad reaffirmed Philippine support to IAEA’s efforts in working towards the safe, secure and peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology. Ambassador Natividad furthermore thanked Director General Amano for his recent visit to the Philippines which provided good basis for advancing Philippine initiatives in capacity building for nuclear applications in the fields of agriculture and health.
