PHL Ambassador to Turkey, Director General of Turkish Employment Agency (İŞKUR) Meet on Measures Against Illegal Activities by Recruitment Agencies

22 February 2018 ANKARA – Philippine Ambassador to Turkey Maria Rowena Mendoza Sanchez met with Mr. Cafer Uzunkaya, Director-General of the Turkish Employment Agency (İŞKUR) on 20 February to discuss stronger cooperation and the closer investigation of private employment agencies violating Turkish laws.

These employment agencies are involved in unauthorized activities such as charging exorbitant fees and facilitating the employment to Turkey of Filipino workers from Hong Kong, Singapore, Dubai, Moscow, and other cities.

Director-General Uzunkaya highlighted that unauthorized activities of recognized private employment agencies are subject to stiff penalties and such agencies found to be violating the law can be closed. 

ISKUR and the Embassy working group committed to immediately address cases of Filipinos who became victims of illegal recruitment and human trafficking in Turkey, and to find ways to prevent similar cases from happening in the future. END
