NY Bown University

22 February 2018 NEW YORK – Consul General Theresa Dizon-De Vega met with members of the Filipino Alliance of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island on 21 February 2018.

The Filipino Alliance was established as a platform for Filipino and Filipino-American students at Brown University to establish networks and to represent Philippine culture and views at various activities on campus.

The students come from different parts of the US – California, Hawaii, Pennsylvania, Florida, and New England and have come to Brown University because of its reputation for being a top Ivy League institution in the US. Their fields of study range from Biology, Statistics and Analytics, Computer Science, English, Ethnic Studies, and Interdisciplinary Studies. Brown University is known for championing an open curriculum system whereby students are given the opportunity to design their respective courses of study.

Consul General De Vega and Consul Arman Talbo provided the students with information about the Consulate General’s different programs for the next generation of Filipino-Americans. Consul General De Vega briefed the students on the Pilipino Graduation, Mentoring Program, Networking Sessions, and the soon-to-be launched DISKUBRE Program for next generation Filipino-Americans. The idea and mechanics behind the pioneering Filipino-American Youth Leadership Program or FYLPRO was likewise shared with the students.

The students were likewise informed about the Citizenship Re-acquisition process and how they could determine if they still maintained Philippine citizenship.

The Fil-Am students were enthusiastic about connecting with other Fil-Am students and young professionals in other parts of the US.

The students were joined at the get-together with their organization adviser, Mr. Matthew Branch from the Brown University Office of Student and Campus Affairs. END
