New York PCG, Advocates Commit to Join Hands in Fighting Human Trafficking

22 February 2018 NEW YORK – Anti-Human Trafficking organizations and migrant concerns advocacy groups promised to collaborate closely with each other and with the Philippines Consulate General in New York to combat human trafficking during a Focus Group Discussion at the Philippines Center on 17 February 2018.

Department of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs Sarah Lou Arriola led the discussion and said that the Department of Foreign Affairs is determined to fight human trafficking.  She also mentioned that the government is continuing its efforts to stamp out schemes used to bait Filipinos who are aspiring to work overseas.

Among the groups represented during the FGD were DAMAYAN Migrant Workers Group, the New Jersey Office of Welcoming Communities, the Filipino – American Legal Defense and Education Fund (FALDEF), the Mission to End Modern-day Slavery, Diocese of Brooklyn Migrant Center, I Am Pinoy Proud Ako, media, volunteer lawyers and other community and church-based migrant advocates.
