DFA Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs: Protection of Filipino Migrants as Top Priority
Undersecretary Sarah Lou Y. Arriola addresses the Annual Parliamentary Hearing at the United Nations Headquarters
26 February 2018, NEW YORK – Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs Sarah Lou Y. Arriola highlighted Philippine policies and best practices at the Annual Parliamentary Hearing organized by the International Parliamentary Union and the President of the General Assembly at the United Nations Headquarters on 22 February.
"If there are Filipinos who are not welcome in your country, please tell us and we will bring them home at no cost to your country. But we plead with you to treat them humanely and respect their human rights. The Duterte administration is committed to protect our migrant workers at all times wherever they may be," the Undersecretary told the parliamentarians.
Entitled “Towards a Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration: The Contribution of Parliaments,” the 2018 Parliamentary Hearing will contribute to a major debate on migration that will culminate with the adoption in December 2018 of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration – a new framework for practical arrangements to ensure migration is properly managed.
