PHL Cybersecurity Experts Attend UK/Japan/ASEAN Cyber Workshop in Brunei

27 February 2018 BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN – Philippine cybersecurity experts from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) attended the UK/Japan/ASEAN Cyber Workshop held at the Radisson Hotel Brunei Darussalam on February 22.
The workshop was conducted by ICT4Peace, a non-government organization (NGO) invited by the Governments of the United Kingdom (UK), Japan and Brunei Darussalam, and was graced by Guest of Honor, Lieutenant Colonel (Rtd) Pengiran Haji Muhamad Sazali bin Pengiran Haji Yakob, Permanent Secretary (Security and Enforcement) at the Prime Minister’s Office of Brunei Darussalam.
Co-hosted by the British High Commission and the Japanese Embassy in Bandar Seri Begawan, the workshop was attended by experts and officials from the Cybersecurity Agencies, Telecommunication Ministries, and Foreign Ministries of ASEAN Member States (AMS) to discuss the application of international law in cyberspace, cyber-governance, threats and responses, and developing a cybersecurity agency, among others.
Members of the Philippine delegation who attended said workshop include Mr. Winston Dean S. Almeda, Special Assistant at the Office of the Undersecretary for Civilian Security and Consular Concerns of the DFA; Engr. Thelma D. Villamorel, Supervising Administrative Officer at the Office of the Undersecretary for Special Concerns of the DICT; and Mr. Mark Anthony Z. Geguera, Head, Cybersecurity Unit, Information Technology, Communications and Records Division of the Office of Assets Management and Support Services of the DFA.
The Philippine Embassy in Brunei Darussalam, led by Ambassador Meynardo LB. Montealegre, assisted the PHL delegation throughout their stay in Bandar Seri Begawan. END
