Filipino Among Top 10 Finalists for Global Teacher Prize 2018

28 February 2018 ABU DHABI –Mr. Jesus Insilada, English teacher and principal at Caninguan National High School in Lambunao, Iloilo, has been named a top 10 finalist for the Global Teacher Prize 2018.

A proud member of the indigenous people’s Panay Bukidnon community, Insilada pioneered culture-based education to encourage students to become engaged in their education, learning through traditional dances, songs, epics, local games and crafts that give context to their studies.  He has received many national and international awards for teaching, writing and the promotion and support for indigenous culture.

The Global Teacher Prize, now on its 4th edition, is a US $1 million award presented annually to an exceptional teacher who has made an outstanding contribution in their profession. The Global Teacher Prize is awarded by the Varkey Foundation under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai.

More than 30,000 teachers from 173 countries around the world were nominated for this year’s prize. The winner of the Prize will be announced at the Global Education and Skills Forum on March 18 in Dubai. END
