PHL Ambassador to Russia Presents Credentials to Kazakh State Secretary

28 February 2018 MOSCOW – In an official ceremony at the Akorda Presidential Palace in Astana, Philippine Ambassador Carlos D. Sorreta presented his letters of credence as non-resident envoy to Kazhstan’s Secretary of State Gulshara Abdykhalikova on February 23. As Philippine Ambassador to the Russian Federation, Amb. Sorreta also has jurisdiction over the Central Asian state.

Ambassador Sorreta conveyed the greetings of President Rodrigo Duterte to President Nursultan Nazarbayev and the people of Kazakhstan. He also expressed the Philippines’ appreciation for the positive relations between the two countries, which spans over 26 years.

State Secretary Abdykhalikova shared that she has visited the Philippines twice and remarked at the fast progress of the economy and the country’s growing importance in the region. She emphasized that Kazakhstan has made significant strides in energy and transportation and can contribute positively to the Philippines’ continued growth. She said that she is pleased with the recent increase in trade between the two countries and hopes that this will continue. She also expressed hope that the Philippines will consider Kazakhstan’s proposal for greater cooperation in civil aviation.

Ambassador Sorreta relayed the Philippines’ gratitude for the hospitality extended to Filipino teachers, engineers and household service workers in Kazakhstan. He added that Filipino professionals can contribute to Kazakhstan’s “Modernization 3.0” program and its policy of developing an English-speaking workforce. He added that the Philippines welcomes Kazakhstan’s interest in the Philippine economy which will require additional investments, energy sources and building materials.

The State Secretary wished Ambassador Sorreta success in guiding Philippines-Kazakhstan relations and assured him of the Kazakh government’s support. END
