28 February 2018 MANAMA – The Pinoy Warriors bested the Bahrain Black Dragons to land the top spot in the Bahrain Spring Festival Dragon Boat Race held at the Bahrain Bay on February 24. Ten (10) teams joined the competition organized by the Bahrain Rowing and Canoe Centre.

The Pinoy Warriors is composed of overseas Filipino workers in Bahrain who indulge in different sports during weekends and/or their days off. They have been training specifically on the Dragon Boats three days a week for several months and were acknowledged as the team to beat in the said race.

The Pinoy Warriors won Bahrain Dinars BD200 (US$500) cash price plus BD400 worth of goods courtesy of Nasser Pharmacy, one of the biggest drug store chains in Bahrain and a major sponsor of the Dragon Boat race.

Philippine Ambassador to Bahrain, Alfonso Ver, was on hand to cheer the Pinoy Warriors. UK Ambassador Simon Martin also stayed throughout the competition to support some of his friends in the different teams. Ambassador Ver commented, “Congratulations to the BRC for a very well-organized race on just its second attempt. I am sure the Dragon Boat races will continue to improve with more teams, more sponsors and more families joining. I am doubly pleased as the first Chinese New Year Dragon Boat race was won by the Pinoy Warriors consisting of members of the Filipino expat community in Bahrain. Mabuhay!” END
