02 March 2018 CHICAGO — Philippine Consul General in Chicago Gina A. Jamoralin discussed with Mr. Michael Aguhar, Executive Director of the Alliance of Filipinos for Immigrant Rights and Empowerment, the possibility of working together to promote greater awareness of the Illinois Domestic Workers’ Bill of Rights and current developments in the US Immigration Law.
In a meeting held at the Consulate General last Friday, 23 February, the Consul General commended the efforts and assistance extended by AFIRE to fellow Filipinos. She thanked and assured Mr. Aguhar that the mission of the Consulate General to enhance protection of the rights and welfare of Filipino nationals includes working with like-minded organizations and individuals.
Consul General Jamoralin hopes that the collective and continuing efforts of stakeholders would contribute to the effective implementation of the Domestic Workers’ Bill of Rights, which covers and guarantees caregivers and household workers basic protection and benefits under the state laws, one year since it took effect.
