PHL Ambassador Featured as Opening Performance on Bangladesh’s Mother Language Day Cultural Program at Shaheed Minar Monument
Philippine Ambassador Vicente Vivencio T. Bandillo recites poetry in Cebuano, English and Tagalog at the Shaheed Minar Cultural Program for Bangladesh’s Mother Language Day celebrations.
05 March 2018 DHAKA – The Philippines, represented by Ambassador Vicente Vivencio T. Bandillo, was featured as the opening act/performance at the main cultural program commemorating the International Mother Language Day of Bangladesh (BD) on February 21. The main program was organized by the Shilpakala Academy and was held at BD’s Shaheed Minar national monument, which was erected to commemorate the BD martyrs killed during the 1952 Bengali Language Movement when BD was still East Pakistan.
The Ambassador’s performance was in the form of a poetry recital, featuring self-composed verses in the Ambassador’s mother tongue Cebuano, along with translations in English. The Embassy arranged for the PH to be featured prominently in the main cultural program to showcase the languages spoken in the Philippines and promote Philippine poetry.
The main Cultural program also featured performances from Indonesia, Denmark, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Netherlands, Bhutan, Australia, Italy, Colombia, Brunei, Japan, Egypt, Vietnam, France, Spain, India, and Nepal. END
