Consul General Dizon-De Vega Honored by Manhattan Borough President and New York State Assemblyman

05 March 2018 NEW YORK — Consul General Theresa Dizon-De Vega was honored by Manhattan Borough President Gale A. Brewer and New York State Assemblyman Brian Barnwell with separate Proclamations and Citations in recognition of her efforts towards ensuring the welfare of Filipino-Americans and in pursuing active engagement of the community.

Ms. Brewer issued a Proclamation designating 28 February 2018 as “Theresa B. Dizon-De Vega Appreciation Day in Manhattan” citing the Consul General’s work in “encouraging constructive civic and political engagement among the Filipino and Filipino-American Community” as well as “remarkable efforts to hone the leadership skills of the second generation of Filipino American leaders.” The Proclamation was read and presented to the Consul General by Mr. Aries dela Cruz of the Office of the Manhattan Borough Council President.

For his part, Assembly Brian Barwell issued a Citation in honor of Consul General De Vega’s efforts to raise Filipino-America socio-civic and political engagement and her work in promotion the Filipino American Young Leaders Program or FYPRO. The Citation was presented by Assemblyman Barnwell’s Chief of Staff Mr. Steven Raga, one of the first FYLPRO delegates representing New York in 2012.

Consul General Dizon-De Vega expressed her sincerest appreciation for the recognition bestowed by the Manhattan Borough Council President and Assemblyman Barnwell and stated that all the efforts of the Consulate General were made possible with the cooperation of the Filipino Community and other stakeholders. The awarding was witnessed by Filipino Community at an Appreciation Night held at the Philippine Center in New York. Consul General De Vega was similarly honored by the Queen’s Borough Council President Melinda Katz in 2017. END
