07 March 2018 NEW YORK – Philippine Consul General Ma. Theresa Dizon-De Vega met with Filipino students taking up Master of Laws (LLM) and Juris Doctor (JD) studies at different New York universities last March 02 as part of the Consulate's efforts to further enhance coordination with Filipino student groups and to help them establish networks and support systems within the Fil-Am community.

The students are all lawyers from the Philippines who are currently enrolled at New York University, Columbia University, and Fordham University.

During the meeting, Consul General de Vega invited the students to participate in the different activities of the Consulate and encouraged them to help in promoting the Philippines as a tourist destination among their classmates. She also informed them of the different services of the Consulate and the Fil-Am associations which they could benefit from.

The meeting likewise served as venue for sharing of experiences in the practice of law, with Fil-Am lawyers Amanda Bernardo of the Filipino American Lawyers Association in New York (FALA-NY) and Rudy Figueroa of FALA-Chicago serving as resource persons.  Atty. Betheena Dizon of SGV-Ernst and Young (SGV-EY) also shared her experience as the current Philippine Tax Desk officer in her firm.

The students thanked Consul General de Vega and Consul Arman R. Talbo, Post's Legal Officer, for organizing the meeting and they expressed their eagerness to continue strengthening their group so that they could welcome and assist future students from the Philippines who come to New York to study.
