Tarlac State University Performing Arts Dance Troupe Sweeps 7 Gold in European Artistic Dance Championships Held in Moscow

14 March 2018 MOSCOW — At the conclusion of their journey to Moscow from March 8-12, the Tarlac State University (TSU) Performing Arts Dance Troupe stopped by the Philippine Embassy, victorious and excited to talk about their visit to Russia where, once again, they had bagged several trophies for their performances of traditional Philippine folk dances. The 12-member troupe, accompanied by Professor Marcelino P. Balanquit, Head of TSU’s Culture and The Arts Office, and TSU Student Regent Ms. Reynamy C. Doria, received a warm welcome from Embassy officers and staff. Professor Balanquit also received a Certificate of Appreciation from Philippine Ambassador to Russia Carlos D. Sorreta in recognition of the TSU Performing Arts Dance Troupe’s successful participation in the 2018 European Artistic Dance Championships of the World Artistic Dance Federation (WADF). Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Jeffrey Valdez, together with Mme. Maria Consuelo Sorreta, hosted the group for a brief appreciation lunch.

In total, the troupe won seven (7) trophies in the Choreographed Traditional Dance Category for their artistic dance performances of Ragragsakan, Bumayah, Binasuan, Tinikling, Amaemaeyatoc, Salawahan, and Maglalatik. Aside from the large group performances, members of the troupe also garnered runners-up awards for the trio performances of Blitbilaan, Palok-Trio; duo performances of Binayugan, Pasiguin, Oasioas; and solo performance of Krizel Queen C. Dungca for Paso Doble. The 12 members chosen to compete in Moscow are Pamela Rose M. Dabe, Krizel Queen C. Dungca, Mark Celvin A. Garcia, Mae Laica C. Lacson, Angelo A. Linsey, Karl Denver M. Saludez, Hedda Andre F. Sanchez, Julius TJ M. Serrano, Rebouy B. Supnet, Lynneth D. Tañedo, Nichole S. Teofilo, and Kenneth T. Ventinilla.

Professor Balanquit and his troupe is regularly invited by WADF to compete in Moscow due to their strong performances. In 2016, the troupe bagged 5 trophies as well in the Etho Dance Category. END
