PHL Consul General Visits PHL Collections at the Newberry Library

26 March 2018 CHICAGO – Philippine Consul General to Chicago Gina Jamoralin, accompanied by Deputy Consul General Romulo Victor M. Israel, Jr., met with the President of the Newberry Library, Dr. David Spadafora, and visited the vast Filipiniana collection of the library on March 15.
Serving the public as an independent research library since 1887, the Newberry library holds a collection of materials on American Indian studies, the Renaissance, cartography and genealogy, among others. The Newberry also has a large and notable collection of Philippine materials ranging from books, maps, manuscripts and other media, including a journal and notebook of Dr. Jose P. Rizal written during his time in Madrid.
Consul General Jamoralin discussed possible collaboration with the Newberry Library in the near future to promote appreciation of Philippine culture and history, as well as the noteworthy contributions of the country’s national hero, Dr. Jose. P. Rizal. A lecture by NCCA Chairman Virgilio S. Almario is also being coordinated with Newberry during his visit to Chicago for the inauguration of Sentro Rizal Chicago. END
