PHL Consulate General in Dubai Participates in Dubai Launch of the Global Filipino Movement Foundation Inc.

DUBAI MOVEMENT

26 March 2018 DUBAI – Philippine Consul General in Dubai Paul Raymund Cortes participated in the Launch of the Global Filipino Movement (GFM) Foundation Inc. on March 23. The foundation is a SEC-registered non-stock non-profit foundation that works with Christian churches, organizations, and individuals to help Overseas Filipinos  and their families. Their vision is to build an empowered overseas Filipino community who transforms nations.

In his remarks, the Consul General commended and welcomed the eagerness of the various non-denominational ministries and their communities to collaborate with the government in providing assistance to overseas Filipinos in this part of the world. The subsequent discussions and hour-long open forum with the Consul General included issues on human trafficking, illegal recruitment, and the various concerns and problems overseas Filipinos face, and how the GFM could be of assistance to the plight of other Filipinos.

Consul General Cortes urged the various ministries to continue their close collaboration with the Consulate, assuring them that government would always be keen to form strategic partnerships with its various stakeholders and build a community that strongly engages with each segment of society – government, academe, non-governmental organizations, civil society groups, youth, religious groups, and other marginalized elements of the community. Only through this constant interaction could our nation move forward towards building a more positive and more prosperous 21st-century state, he added.

The Dubai launch of the Global Filipino Movement was the first in the Middle East and the second only among all foreign service posts, next to HongKong. END
