PH Appointed Co-Chair of Working Group of Intangible Cultural Heritage

26 March 2018 PARIS – The Philippines and Algeria were appointed Co-chairs of the Informal Ad Hoc Working Group of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) by the ICH Bureau on March 22.
Following his designation as Chairperson of the 13th Session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the ICH, H.E. Mr. Prithvirajsing Roopun, Minister of Arts and Culture of the Republic of Mauritius, chaired the first meeting of the ICH Bureau on March 22.
The Philippines, as Vice-President representing the Asia Pacific region, participated in the Bureau meeting. Other members included Austria, Armenia, Guatemala and Lebanon.
During the meeting, the Bureau examined requests for international assistance and discussed the continuation of the Ad Hoc Working Group in 2018, which will now be open-ended to all interested Parties.
Ambassador Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro underscored that the continuation of the informal ad-hoc working group will promote strategic and forward-looking approaches to determine gaps and future directions of the Convention. She conveyed to the Chair the Philippines’ commitment and support for a successful session of the Committee in Port Louis, Mauritius on 26 November- 1 December 2018.
Mr. Hendrik Garcia, Philippine Deputy Permanent Delegate, and Mr. Nassim Mohand Amer, Attaché from the Algerian Foreign Ministry, shall co-chair the first meeting of the Ad Hoc Working Group at the end of April. END
