Consulate Supports PH Cinema Promotion in HK Filmart

26 March 2018 HONG KONG – As a show of support and to promote the Philippine film industry to the Hong Kong market and the rest of the world, Consul General Antonio A. Morales visited the Philippine Pavilion on 19 March 2018, the opening day of the 22nd Hong Kong International Film & TV Market (FILMART), Asia’s largest entertainment expo.

The Philippine Pavilion was organized by the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) featuring fifteen Philippine production companies including Regal Entertainment, TBA Studios and Viva Entertainment Group.

During the visit, the undersigned met with FDCP chair Ms. Liza Diño, and discussed possible collaborations to promote the centennial celebration of Philippine cinema in 2018. One of the proposed events is a talk by a Filipino film director during Post’s Philippine Film Festival to be held in October or November this year.

On the 20th of March, FDCP and the Philippine Film Export Services Office hosted a party, Philippine Night@HK FILMART at The Hub, a private event space in Wan Chai district, which drew hundreds of expo participants from dozens of countries until past midnight.

GMA Worldwide, Inc. and ABS-CBN International Distribution have separate booths and are marketing television series during the expo. According to GMA Worldwide, Inc. Senior Sales Manager, Manuel Paolo J. Laurena, their buyers are mainly from Southeast Asia, Latin America and even in Kazakhstan. 

FILMART is organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), and will run from 19-22 March 2018 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC).

This year’s edition has gathered 850 exhibitors from 37 countries and regions such as the Philippines, South Korea, Japan, United States and mainland China.

Consul General Morales was accompanied by Vice Consul Fatima G. Quintin, and Attachés Luz M. Iglesias and Charlene A. Beriana during the visit. END
