PH Team Wins 16 Medals in Artistic Gymnastics at the Special Olympics IX MENA Games 2018

Abu Dhabi medal Won

The Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi celebrated with the Philippine Team as they won a total of 16 medals in Artistic Gymnastics of the Special Olympics IX MENA Games during the awards ceremony on 19 March 2018. The Philippine team won 7 gold medals, 6 silver medals, 2 bronze medals, and 1 fourth-place medal. The Philippines won the Gold Medals for Girls Individual All Around finals, Girls Division 1 Level 1 Vaulting, Girls Division 1 Level 1 Floor Exercise, Girls Division 1 Level 1 Balance Beam, Boys Individual All Around finals, Boys Division 1 Level 1 Vaulting, and Boys Division 1 Level 1 Parallel Bars.

Philippine Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates Constancio R. Vingno, Jr. and Special Olympics Philippines National Executive Director Kaye Chastine B. Samson, joined by Head Coach Mary Eu Ann R. Ordoño and Athlete Jeachell Mae G. Castillo, were interviewed by Abu Dhabi Media on 19 March 2018 for winning a total of 16 medals, including 7 gold medals, in Artistic Gymnastics at Special Olympics IX MENA Games.

27 March 2018 ABU DHABI — Philippine Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates Constancio R. Vingno expressed his pride for the 4 young athletes and for the whole team for winning at the Special Olympics IX MENA Games on March 19. Ambassador Vingno said that it was a proud day for the Philippines as we won 7 gold medals, 6 silver medals, 2 bronze medals, and 1 fourth-place medal. He encouraged the Filipinos in the UAE and in the Philippines to keep on supporting the Special Olympics Philippines Team as they prepare for the Special Olympics World Games next year.

Ambassador Vingno said that laws have been enacted in the Philippines to provide for the rights and privileges of people with determination, including their rehabilitation, self-development, and self-reliance, as well as their integration into the mainstream of society. He added that the Special Olympics gives the athletes visibility, and it gives them a chance to play, to compete, and to grow as individuals despite their perceived disabilities.   

Ms. Samson also expressed her joy for Athletes Jeachell Mae G. Castillo, Althea Angel M. Padilla, Luis Angelo C. Urbano and Jerwin O. Valdez for winning in Artistic Gymnastics. She said that she always believed in them and that it is through their hard work, courage and determination as well as the guidance of the coaches that Team Philippines won. END

The Philippine Embassy cheered for the Philippine Team as they were welcomed by the crowd along with more than 1,200 athletes and coaches from 32 participating countries and territories. The Philippine Team is headed by Special Olympics Philippines National Executive Director Kaye Chastine B. Samson and composed of Head Coach Mary Eu Ann R. Ordoño, Assistant Coach Jan Obson J. Perez, and Athletes Jeachell Mae G. Castillo, Althea Angel M. Padilla, Luis Angelo C. Urbano and Jerwin O. Valdez.

Abu Dhabi Gymnastic

Philippine Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates Constancio R. Vingno, Jr. supported the Philippine Team as they competed in Artistic Gymnastics at Special Olympics IX MENA Games 2018 on 18 March 2018 at Mubadala Arena, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.  Athletes Jeachell Mae G. Castillo and Althea Angel M. Padilla competed under Girls Division 1 Level 1 for vaulting, floor exercise and balance beam. Athletes Luis Angelo C. Urbano and Jerwin O. Valdez competed under Boys Division 1 Level 1 for vaulting, floor exercise and parallel bars.
