27 March 2018 WINNIPEG — The Philippine Embassy in Ottawa and the Philippine Consulate General in Toronto successfully conducted a joint consular outreach mission in Winnipeg, Manitoba from 15 to 19 March 2018.

The joint undertaking took in a total of 1, 214 passports processed by both foreign service posts. At least 57 Filipinos took their oath to reacquire or retain their Philippine citizenship under Republic Act 9225.

Also, a total of 310 Filipinos registered, reactivated, transferred records, changed addresses and corrected records to qualify as voters for the 2019 Philippine national elections.

Other services included legalization of documents and submission of documents for civil registry.

Manitoba is home to approximately 80,000 Filipinos, per 2016 Canada census. As it is part of the Consulate in Toronto’s consular jurisdiction, a regular outreach mission is undertaken except during the winter season in order to avoid accidents related to travel during extreme weather conditions.

Both foreign services posts ensured that more than the usual number of applicants would be served, considering that this is the first outreach mission for 2018 in Manitoba and mindful of the surge of interest for the new ten-year validity passports for adult applicants. END
