“Sonata” Screened at Moscow State University

02 April 2018 MOSCOW — Russian students of Southeast Asian languages were deeply moved by Peque Gallaga’s film “Sonata,” about the life of a Filipino opera singer (Cherie Gil) who lost her reason to live after losing her voice. The film screening was hosted by the Department of South-East Asian, Korean and Mongolian Philology, with the support of Professor Elena Frolova, Senior Professor of Philippine Philology.
The film was presented by Cultural Attaché Sheila G. Pamocol. It was the 2nd film screening held by the Philippine Embassy at the Institute of Asian and African Studies of the Moscow State University, as part of the Embassy’s efforts to promote deeper awareness of Philippine culture. The viewers readily connected with the film’s depiction of contemporary social issues in the Philippines, as reflected in their reviews. Below are some of the reactions/comments from the audience:

The Philippine Embassy in Moscow arranged the film screening in collaboration with the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) and the Cultural Diplomacy Unit of the Office of the International Economic Relations of the Department of Foreign Affairs. END
