Indonesian Travel Agents Conduct Familiarization Tour to Cebu and Bohol
Indonesian travel agents on a Familiarization Tour of the Philippines at Chocolate Hills in Bohol, together with representatives from the Department of Tourism and the Philippine Embassy in Jakarta
02 April 2018 JAKARTA — Indonesian travel went to the Philippine on a Familiarization Tour of in Cebu and Bohol in the Visayas region from March 22-28. The familiarization tour is being conducted under the auspices of the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in Jakarta, Indonesia, in cooperation with the Department of Tourism, airline partner Air Asia, with the support of Bohol Beach Club.
The seven-day familiarization tour was conducted to showcase the Philippines as a new destination for the Indonesian market; to encourage them to include the country in their tour programs; to have a first-hand experience of the Philippines as a safe and secure destination for their clients, and the various tourism products and services that it can offer.
The tour started in Manila with visits to the historically significant Rizal Park/Bagumbayan, Intramuros, Fort Santiago, and Manila Cathedral. The travel agents also had meetings with DOT-accredited travel agencies and a presentation on medical tourism in Manila.
From Manila, the travel agents proceeded to Cebu where they were treated to a City tour of Magellan's Cross, Fort San Pedro, Casa Gorordo Museum, the Profood Factory and Mango Museum, and a guitar factory. In Bohol they visited the tarsier, Chocolate Hills, Bohol Bee Farm, and cruised down Loboc River.
The travel agents are from Medan, a city in the province of North Sumatra in the Western part of Indonesia. It is the third most populous city in Indonesia (with 2.1 million people, part of North Sumatra’s 13.5 million population) and is a 2.5-hour flight from Jakarta. It is one of the source markets being eyed by the Department of Tourism to reach their target of 100,000 tourist arrivals from Indonesia.
Upon the conclusion of the familiarization tour, the travel agents shared how excited they are to put together and promote packages for tours in the Philippines, especially as they are now more equipped to do so, having experienced the country and its people first hand. END
