Fiesta-themed Reception for UN Women’s Club Features Best of Philippine Culture

05 April NEW YORK – Mrs. Maria Lourdes B. Locsin, spouse of the Permanent Representative of the United Nations Ambassador Teodoro L. Locsin Jr., hosted members of the United Nations Delegations Women’s Club (UNDWC) to a Filipino fiesta-themed tea reception at the Philippine Center’s Kalayaan Hall on March 22.

Spouses of the Permanent Representatives and Deputy Permanent Representatives of the different missions to the United Nations, sampled different kinds of traditional Filipino cuisine such asukoy, sotanghon, beef empanada, cassava cake, ube halaya and turon. The guests were serenaded with Filipino love songs by Filipino soprano Kay Habana.

During the event, Cynthia Alberto of Weaving Hands conducted a demonstration of traditional Philippine weaving techniques. 

Founded in April 1963, the UNDWC is a social club for women delegates to the United Nations and spouses of delegate missions’ representative. Its mission is to promote friendly relations, on an informal basis, among the representatives of Permanent Missions to the United Nations. The club organizes the social teas and other events and contributes to understanding of the various cultures, represented in the United Nations. END
